Chinese Medicine Therapies
Looking for pain relief and improvement in overall health? Acupuncture is a well known and highly utilized practice to achieve both of those goals.
Acupuncture is the use of hair-thin needles (so small you barely feel them) to stimulate certain points on the body activating "qi" (pronounced chee) and triggering the body's natural healing abilities. In Chinese medicine, the body has twelve distinct meridians, or lines of energy, and each one of those meridians connects to a major organ. Acupuncture attempts to identify which meridians may be stagnant and then breaks up that stagnation with the insertion of those tiny needles. Acupuncture stimulates the central and peripheral nervous systems and causes the release of certain brain chemicals such as endorphins.
Benefits of Acupuncture may include:
improve circulatory system and immune function
provide pain relief (including back pain, post-operative pain, sciatica and more)
decrease blood pressure
aid in fertility journeys
reduce frequency and severity of headaches
improve digestive function
aid in weight loss
assist with addiction relief
Fire Cupping is the ancient practice of placing fire inside small glass cups that to remove the oxygen to create suction so the cups may be placed on the skin to create a seal and pull. The suction causes the skin and superficial muscle tissue to rise up within the cup. The pressure begins the process of loosening the muscles, increasing blood flow, pulling toxins and sedating the nervous system. Fire Cupping is said to penetrate tissue up to four inches below the skin and has been considered one of the best deep tissue therapies available.
Benefits of Fire Cupping May Include
improvement in respiratory conditions
reduction in blood pressure
increased blood flow
relaxation, reduction in stress
improvement in headache frequency and severity
Moxibustion and Gua Sha
Our Chinese Medicine Practitioner also practices both gua sha (the raking of the muscles with small paddles to move qi for pain relief, detoxification and more) and moxibustion (the burning of the mugwort plant near certain points to inspire healing) and may incorporate these practices into your session. You may ask your practitioner if these services may be appropriate for you.
